I had luxurious hours to meander up the Ortigas Center from my native Kapasigan one weekend in June. Being on copywriting mode for a job interview at The Exchange Regency, I succumbed to the idea that I could unwind after the grueling ritual of digging into my corporate past. I figured that such a rendition of spontaneity in the bustling grid of Pasig City would inspire me to have a relaxing staycation.
After stumbling upon online the information that the residential-hotel has a jacuzzi and swimming pool, I felt determined to embrace a less defined and plotted itinerary to have enough wiggle room for a snack of Avocado Cheesecake and Chai Tea at Tully's (located next to the hotel). The location was also ideal to make my morning stroll to the nearby branch of Racks for a breakfast plate of Rib Flakes.
Two Faces
The Exchange Regency is part hotel and part condominium. Located at the fringe of Ortigas Center's corporate landscape, the room windows from two sides of the building can offer guests unobstructed views of the city's residential scene. The lower units of the establishment are assigned to condo tenants while the upper ones are reserved for hotel guests.
Amenities Floor
The amenities floor can be found at the 3rd level. It's the hotel space for the jacuzzi, sauna, playground and swimming pool. It was there where I spent endless hours of lounging to escape the stress of my freelance gigs. Submerged under lukewarm water, I became oblivious of life's extremes.
Booked at a spacious Deluxe Room that exuded a modern contemporary appeal, I felt right at home. The queen-sized bed was exquisitely plush and the room view was spectacular. Remarkable was the mood lighting that had a separate switch from the other source of light inside the room as I had the convenient choice of switching on the former or preferring the bedside lamp for power naps. I also found the presence of a mini-refrigerator a pleasant bonus to my indoor getaway.
Hotel Location
The hotel location gave me the chance to make a quick escape to nearby SM Megamall for dinner and revisit Emerald Avenue to reminisce about an old flame (who used to work at one of the buildings there) and a workplace where I spent a year of graveyard shift in 2011.
With pending freelance gig deadlines, I took the chance to cocoon myself away from the worries of online stuff. This is to mean that I was unplugged the whole time I was booked at the hotel. Never mind that I was not able to test the Wi-Fi access. I just did not care.
It was enough that I was done with an interesting job interview for a startup company and all I had to do to walk out from it was easily slide myself into the building's elevator and get off at the 25th floor 3 minutes after for a power nap and a hot cup of complimentary coffee.
