Where to get that glorious repose for layover upon arriving at NAIA before setting out to your ultimate destination in the Philippines? There are a lot of options actually. There’s the bespoke luxury of a 5-star hotel, the charm of a boutique hotel, and the bohemian lure of a cheap hostel. Then there is the straightforward budget accommodation called Nichols Airport Hotel (NAH), a 70-room hotel that houses a spa, a sensational roof deck restaurant and a coffee shop.

Nichols Airport Hotel has been in operation along ParanaqueCity’s Quirino Avenue near MIA Road for the past 15 years. Local and foreign tourists in the country have so far been converted into patrons by it thanks to its clean rooms, cozy ambiance, and affordable rates. Most of all, guests prefer it over expensive hotels and cheap motels in Metro Manila for its close proximity to the airport. It’s roughly 15 minutes away from NAIA’s Terminal 3 where I was scheduled for pickup (room rate inclusive, one way) by its hotel guest shuttle after my recent Boracay revisit.

Airport Pickup

I was fetched on time one afternoon by the concierge of the NAH minutes after arriving at the Terminal 3 of the airport in Metro Manila as I decided to escape spending an extended time getting stuck in traffic just to go home. I would later on see online a Tweet – a rant about the lack of taxi cabs for arriving travellers -- of a fellow flight passenger. It’s safe to assume that he had an unfortunate time of wasting precious hours at the airport for a ride out of the area. As for me, I was already sound asleep in my booked air conditioned room at the NAH by the time he probably got one. As far as I’m concerned, the hotel was my temporary home that day.

Premier Deluxe Room

My booked Premier Deluxe Room was as straightforward as the hotel’s name. The interior’s details were designed in such a way that a traveler will feel relaxed for an overnight stay or more before heading to his or her target destination in the country. It has the basic room features such as a decent bed, flat screen cable TV, wardrobe space, bathroom and bathroom essentials, sofa, side tables for accent and a work desk. It also lets guests have access to free internet Wi-Fi and a mini-refrigerator. What’s more, it has a view of the city – something that questionable motels and a few rickety hostels don’t offer.

Sensational City Views

The view of the city is extended at The Roof Bar, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant where unobstructed views of the nearby airport and neighboring cities’ skyline can be seen over a cup of coffee, a comforting dessert or a sensational drink. In my case, it was where I enjoyed a plate of delicious Beef Steak Tagalog for late lunch after checking in.

Medical Tourism

Since a medical facility is right next to it, some guests scheduled for aesthetic procedures have also been finding the hotel to be a reasonable temporary crib during their wellness ordeal.

For those who are on super short stay, NAH doesn’t offer hourly rates, but it can arrange a day use of a 6-hour (maximum) stay for guests. Its monthly rates start at P1,300 per night with complimentary breakfast and roundtrip airport transfers. It also has two types of Family Rooms – one for a group of 3 and another for a group of 4 people.

Whether you’re on travel layover or long-term vacation, Nichols Airport Hotel is ideal for that stay near the airport.
